There was a particular incident; they had run into one another outside of her building, she had been wearing a red sweater, she had addressed her by that, as a name, but later on she was unable to remember which one of them had been wearing the red sweater and which one of them had done the addressing.

A little bit later, once the incident had passed from any kind of significance into memory, she saw another girl in a red sweatshirt at a critical moment and the recognition had changed the course of events. Of course, she had to wonder whether it was an echo of the previous incident, something cosmic, or if the sweatshirt merely acted on her because of its similarity to the original sweater, or a third possibility, that it was all just a meaningless coincidence?
